Hometown: I was born and raised in gorgeous Vancouver, BC!

Education & Training: I have been performing since I could remember. I did a lot of youth musical theatre training in the Greater Vancouver area. At 15, I wanted to try screen acting. After convincing, my parents helped me find training, and I continued taking classes through high school.

Now in a few weeks, I will graduate from Capilano University’s “Acting for Stage and Screen” program!

What influenced you to pursue a career in theatre?

I believe that in life, you should pursue what you love, and for me, theater, acting, and performing are what I love. I have known for a long time that this is the path I want to follow.

It wasn’t hard for me to pursue this career because I love it so much! I’m so grateful that I have such supportive parents. They took me to a lot of live theatre growing up. They never pushed me into anything yet told me to do and pursue what I loved in life.

They reminded me that no matter which path I choose, it will demand a lot of hard work and dedication, so I might as well take the one I want to work hard for.

What do you love about theatre?

The performing arts has changed my life because it has opened my eyes to so many stories. I love theatre because it’s such a powerful medium. It’s an amazing way to express your voice, start hard conversations, understand humans and simply make us think.

Every story told on stage is a story someone needs to hear. Every character I play I know is someone’s truth. I love getting to understand the true core of the show and my character, then finding how I can connect to them. Theatre is so special because of that connection between the audience, and the actors on stage. Whether it’s the adrenaline and energy the audience can give you, or being in a massive theatre with strangers watching art that affects you.

Which plays and musicals were you in, and what were your roles?

At my high school, we didn’t have a large theatre department. We didn’t perform any big-name shows, which was actually a blessing in disguise in some ways. Most of the productions were original works.

I had to create my own scripts, which really deepened my passion for writing. Later, I got the chance to write, direct, and perform in several of my original pieces on stage!

In November, I was in Capilano’s production of Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really. Directed by Cathy Wilmot. I was grateful to be playing the role of Mina Harker. It was an incredible experience with many opportunities, including the role of co-fight captain.

In March, I was happy to be involved in Capilano’s production of Little Women. I had the pleasure of assistant directing alongside director Bob Frazer.

If you hadn’t become a performer, what might you have pursued professionally?

I grew up playing ice hockey, which was also a massive passion of mine and a big part of who I am. With that, the idea of working in sports broadcasting/reporting always intrigued me.

Another thing I really enjoy is creative writing, and the behind the scenes work that goes into the film industry. However, I truly believe I would have still found my way to acting.

Career goals?

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for screen acting, so I’ve mainly been pursuing film and television. However, I still want to keep exploring all the incredible opportunities theatre has to offer as well.

Vancouver has a talented, passionate theatre community! My goal is to grow within Vancouver’s theatre scene by pushing myself, advancing my career, creating new work, connecting with passionate people, and working hard!
