Wednesday Addams’s romance with her “normal” boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, results in a hilariously disastrous dinner involving their two very different families, in CapU Theatre’s 2025-2026 season finale, The Addams Family Musical. Directed by renowned American-Canadian director and choreographer Troy McLaughlin, the production was held at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts from March 24 to 28.

The musical highlights the tension between tradition and change as Wednesday matures and falls in love, prompting her family to confront “normalcy.” Key themes include accepting change, unconditional love in a close family, the need for truth, and embracing one’s unique identity despite societal pressures.

Brian Ball’s set design showcased a multi-level skeletal structure symbolizing the Addams family mansion, with a large full moon and gnarled, leafless trees silhouetted in the background.

Gerald King’s lighting design established a spooky atmosphere that matches the show’s dark humor and haunting melodies.

Angus Silva’s performance as Fester Addams had the audience laughing with his precise comedic timing! He showcased a wide range of emotions in his acting.

Adam Walker-Valerio’s portrayal of Gomez Addams impressed me. He radiated vibrance and wit through his voice and physical acting. His stage presence was commanding, making him a truly versatile performer!

The live pit band was conducted by Melissa Morris. The musical numbers were entertaining, though several solo vocals sounded pitchy, affecting the listening experience.

Overall, the production went very smoothly. The crowd’s energy was incredible! Congratulations to the cast and crew for a successful run!
