Hometown: I grew up in Richmond and Delta, BC. I now live in Burnaby on the ancestral, and unceded territory of the hən̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.
Education and Training: I graduated from UVic in 2023 where I got my bachelor’s degree in education through the elementary education program. I currently work as a French Immersion elementary school teacher in Burnaby, though I would love to be able to pursue theatre full-time.
Most of my theatre training happened while I was in high school, and I gained experience by performing in plays and musicals through school, with community theatres, and through Delta Youth Theatre’s student program.
I performed in my first musical when I was 9 years old, and have since performed in over 20 shows in the last 15 years! I trained in dance at Studio West where I took both recreational and competitive classes in jazz, hip hop and tap.
What influenced you to pursue a career in theatre?
I grew up watching British pantomimes with my family every year at the Metro Theatre. After so many years of watching the shows, I eventually decided that I wanted to try being a part of one and auditioned! I went on to perform in 3 pantomimes with the Metro Theatre when I was 11, 13, and 14.
What do you love about theatre?
What I love most about theatre is how universal it can be. I truly believe that theatre is for everyone as there are so many different ways to enjoy theatre and to participate in it!
Which plays and musicals were you in, and what were your roles?
Some of my recent performing credits include:
- Auden in A Kind of Apocalypse with the UVic Student Alternative Theatre Collective
- Attie in Tadpole with We’re All Friends Theatre Co. at the Victoria One Act Festival
- Ernst and co-dance captain in Spring Awakening with Delta Players Theatre
- Robbie in WROL (Without Rule of Law) with Rough Magic Theatre at the Vancouver Fringe Festival and rEvolver Festival
- Tommy Ross in Carrie with Bug’s Backyard Theatre
- Quince, Romeo, Hamlet and a Witch in Shakespeare Sings with Steel Wolf at the Vancouver Fringe Festival
If you hadn’t become a performer, what might have you pursued professionally?
My current theatre career goals would be to be able to pursue theatre full time and to maybe take on a leadership role in a show!
At the moment, the majority of my experience lies in performing, but I want to work towards gaining more experience in other areas in order to take on a new type of role within a show such as choreographer or director!
