Hometown: I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but ever since immigrating to Canada in 2010, I’ve lived in all of the Tri-Cities throughout my teens before settling into the heart of Downtown Vancouver last year! I now reside on the unceded and stolen territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tseil-Waututh First Nations.

Education and Training: I have a BFA in Theatre Performance from SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts, where my main practice was learning to be an interdisciplinary collaborator and deviser, though I also did quite a bit of text and scene work.

However, musical theatre is also my first love and I’ve quietly kept pursuing it for the past few years as well by taking dance classes and discovering my voice at home.

What influenced you to pursue a career in theatre?

1. Growing up with the High School Musical movies (and being dubbed the Sharpay of my friend group because I was blonde)

2. Watching my future high school theatre department take on Les Misérables when I was on my grade 8 field trip.

3. Being very delusional, a little petty, and bold enough to follow the joy because everything else would never compare.

What do you love about theatre?

Too much, but the main crux of it is that it nurtures freedom, connection, and ignites a childlike wonder. It brought me out of my shell as a quiet teen, helps me navigate through the weight of living in today’s world, and genuinely helped shape me into a more curious, open hearted person.

The power of art and live performance is like nothing else in this world, and I think I’d do anything to be adjacent to it somehow.

Which plays and musicals were you in, and what were your roles?

I played a variety of Shakespearean characters in my latest project, Shakespeare Sings! which was a part of this year’s Vancouver Fringe. Some of my favourites to dive into were Flute, Juliet, Benvolio, and Olivia.

This past summer, I played George in a workshop production of World Ender. It went up at Presentation House Theatre and was made by Great Trash Productions (fellow SFU alumni!)

In March, I was in 10 Million Stars with Highlands United Productions. It was a musical revue where I was part of an incredible ensemble and we sang a myriad of songs — but the most special was playing Glinda and getting to sing “Popular” from Wicked.

One of my most precious career experiences was being involved in Bound! The Musical, In concert, last November, where I played Lexa. It was put on at Metro Theatre through the Bound Musical Theatre Society. I believe it’s the piece that got my career in the city snowballing and the cast became some of my dearest friends in the industry.

Upcoming, I am co-directing a show for the first time! Shakespeare in Love with UBC Player’s Club is set to run from November 13-15 at Performance Works in Granville Island. I’m also in a Vancouver Dinner Theatre production for this Halloween month, playing Ginger in The Last of the Canonical Five – an immersive Jack The Ripper-themed piece.

If you hadn’t become a performer, what might have you pursued professionally?

Definitely a writer! It’s still my (somewhat backup) plan to write some romance novels in my 30s. Or anything that involves working with sea animals – I love dolphins and otters so much I could cry.

Career goals?

So many! I want to get into voice acting, try directing a bit more, and I’d also love to make art in other countries like Europe, or maybe back home in Brazil. I’d also love to be in a Bard on the Beach production.

At the heart of it all, I want to keep working on collaborative pieces, original local work, and fostering community and play. Oh, and I also simply have to be in a Hallmark movie, otherwise this was all for nothing.
