Hometown: Yellowknife, North West Territories.
Education and Training: I had not done much of any training prior to my studies at Capilano University which I had just graduated from their Acting for Stage and Screen Program this June.
What influenced you to pursue a career in theatre?
I remember telling my father that I had wanted to be an actor and he didn’t like that so as a young kid I also didn’t like it, but no matter how hard you can pull away from what you want it’s always going to find you, just had to give it time.
I realized when choosing a career path in grade 12 I wanted to help people, I wanted to join the RCMP. Again, the performer in me was tugging at me. I thought how else could I help, and I realized I wanted to help people the way performance has helped me, by being a voice or a figure for those who don’t always have those figures growing and can turn to film, performance and stories to seek answers. That’s why I act, that’s why I love it.
What do you love about theatre?
Specifically what I love about theatre is not just the live and raw performance, but I love that when we are called to act and to be of service to a play or project we are required to look within ourselves which means a constant fine tuning of figuring out who we are.
Depending on the project, I personally begin to unlock and learn so much more about myself which I can use to perpetuate my performances in the future. Even when we think we have the answers, it slips out of our hands! So it’s a constant chase and rush of adrenaline.
Which plays and musicals were you in, and what were your roles?
I had done a play called FOUR PLAYS FOR COARSE ACTORS, I played, “old man”, “The Major” and I assisted directed along side other fellow actors and along side Director Dr. Nicholas Harrison.
I had then performed in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet as Romeo, Directed by Bob Frazer and took on responsibility as Fight Captain along side Angella Cody.
I then returned to stage in One Man, Two Guvnors as Male Understudy, Fight Captain, and Ensemble.
If you hadn’t become a performer, what might have you pursued professionally?
If I hadn’t become a performer I would have found a path in psychology, helping people and patients. I also would’ve found a way or direction by going the RCMP program and becoming a Constable. I can’t say if anything of that would’ve worked out but I think even if I had pursed those paths I would’ve found acting one way or another.
Career goals?
Right now, I’m working with my agent from Lucas Talent, Diane Nahn, and I’ve been focused on pursuing a career in film and television. I also want to explore other avenues such as voice over and motion capture once I establish myself a bit more in the industry. So, establishing a strong body of work with casting directors and building relationships is my focus. I did a Q&A with actor Dan Payne and his diversity and range of work inspired me to follow a similar path.
My career goals don’t stop there. I want to continue my love and feed my thrill for theatre by continuing to put my work out to theatre company’s and find projects that inspire and fuel me.
I truly believe that theatre is the actors medium and that’s something I want to protect and nourish in my career.
