Hometown: Steveston Village in Richmond. I grew up steps away from the main village!

Education/Training: I started my professional training at 15 through Arts Umbrella. Then I went to UVIC – I went into the comprehensive stream (now known as self directed) where I was able to try a little bit of everything both onstage, backstage and front of house. I graduated with a minor in Renaissance English alongside my BFA in theatre with a front of house specialization.

When not in school, I would spend my summers training either locally or abroad. In 2018, I spent the summer living in London training with Shakespeare’s Globe theatre as well as in a musical theatre intensive where I trained with multiple west end artists, in the Dominion theatre using their rehearsal studio, and master classes with giants like Tim English and Julie Gossage.

Why did you decide to become an actress?

I became an actress because I love to tell stories. Something that continues to inspire me is the transformative nature of acting and creating. I love analyzing text and discover the nuance of understanding how a character ticks within their given circumstances. It’s like I get to play detective!

I teach my students acting is the art of pretend – it’s all about play! Thats what I find the most attractive about this lifestyle because every opportunity is a chance to play and try something new. Theres always something to learn that gives for range! I love the diversity that is within acting of how much you can do from classical acting to clown – so much versatility!

So TLDR version: I’m a child at heart, I always want to play pretend and now I get to play everyday! Also love to remain curious and discover new styles.

Plays/musicals you were in?

The Top Hits

•Urinetown – Little Sally **would play again in a heartbeat!

•CATS – Jennyanydots

•Logainne – The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

•Tigger/Roo (puppeteering) – House in Pooh Corner TYA

•Shrek – Ensemble/Humpty Dumpy (I was the shortest in the cast and given all the big costumes)

•Antigones – Actor/Dancer – (Vic. Fringe) -> for this show each actor played a different stage of Antigone. Used dance as a vehicle to tell the story to emphasize the text!

Special Highlight

•Sam – Lost in the Woods (workshop of a new play). I’m passionate about new works and this was a crossover between contemporary dance and acting. It allowed me to chip my teeth in some harder edge material and take on a 2 hander script. I learned a lot in this process, especially surrounding world building.

Upcoming Show

I’m currently working on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoast with Metro as dance captain and assistant choreographer. The cast is incredible, the creative team is amazing, and the concept will make you BELIEVE. (That’s all I can say)

Is there a genre you haven’t explored but would like to?

I’m typically cast in musicals and I would love to come back into my roots dabbling with modern works and Shakespeare. I’m obsessed with the language of how the poetry flows, the story structure and relationships dynamics.

I also enjoy how groundbreaking many modern works were for creating strong powerful women like Nora in a Dolls House, Joan in Saint Joan, everyone in Barefoot in the Park, some Norm Foster, and of course Hedda Gabler. I’d like to step into one of those roles.

Career goals?

1. To get my masters in the UK for musical theatre.

2. I’m starting to shift into more creative team roles. I love performing, but I get a bigger thrill creating the visual of how a story unfold. I also feel more empowered as a director or choreographer where i second guess myself less. I would love to direct a version of Burn This where the lead (Anna) is a contemporary dancer and choreograph vignettes of her in the studio before we cut back to the apartment – see how the pressure of the play impacts her dance ability.

3. As a performer (talking big goals) I would LOVE to perform on cruise ships and be featured in a musical TV episode or hallmark. That and play a mermaid.
